EXAMPLE 1;

Masthead

FONT TYPE;Calisto MT’

WHY; the font is clear and bold enough to be able to read, this is helpful as my target audience is younger ages so it allows them to understand the masthead. Also by the genre being pop it has a happy, easy flow to it and isn’t too complicated which is generally what pop magazines consist off.

EXAMPLE 2;

Masthead

FONT TYPE;Cooper Black’

WHY; this font has a bubble hint to it, and bubble writing is commonly known to be used by younger people. This allows the magazine to appeal to the target audience through font choice. It’s also very bold which will help the magazine to stand out.

EXAMPLE 3;

Masthead

FONT TYPE;Palace Script MT’

WHY; this font is stereotypically very girly which will appeal to my target audience of girls, it’s also very neat and this will set a good reputation for the magazine and it looks well thought out and not rushed meaning the magazine is at a good standard.

The main image for my magazine will be a medium close up of a girl facing straight onto the camera. This will break the fourth wall and allow the audience to have more of a connection with the artist, because it will be as if they are looking directly at them.

The smaller images  used will be groups of people posing as bands so that the magazine interests the target audience, I will do this by including the artists they most like shown from my research.

I will also include small images of items of clothing to give the reader a insight of what fashion items will be featured within.

MAGAZINE PROPOSAL.
The genre of my magazine is a hybrid between Music and fashion. This will allow the magazine to appeal to two types of readers, because it will be able to intrigue those interested in fashion and those interested in music. The name of my magazine is Truly.
My target audience is girls ranging from ages 12-16. The girls ages 15 and under do not fall into a category within the socio economic groups because they are too young to work and are technically not students. However the 16 year olds would either fall into group E as they are students and/or group D as they may have part time employment at an unskilled job. The interests of my audiences are very mainstream and appearance involved. Meaning that the type of music they listen to, films they watch or TV programmes they watch will be highly influenced by what’s most popular between people there age and across the country. They will also listen to a certain type of music or watch a certain film because of the looks of the artist/actor within. For example they would watch ‘The Lucky One’ purely because Zach Effron stars in at, not because they know and are interested in the story line.  My target audience are also heavy users on social networking sites; this informs me that a lot of advertising will have to be done through them in order to grasp my target audience’s attention.
IPC media will publish my magazine. This is because they are already experienced in publishing many magazines similar to my own. For example ‘Look ‘which is a fashion magazine, and part of my hybrid is fashion. Then they also publish ‘Teen Now’ which is the one that mostly relates to my magazine. As it is a magazine entirely dedicated to teens offering them the latest gossip on their favourite celebrity’s and finds out a lot of information about their audience through social networking sites such as twitter and Facebook which I will be using to advertise my magazine.
The features that I am most likely to include within my magazine are gossip/the latest news on the most ‘liked’ artists at the time. Questionnaires will be available online in order to allow the audience to vote which artist they would like to see feature in the latest print. The magazine will include interviews on new artists and how they are coping in the world of fame. The latest news on other artists and how there career is going on; also gossip on celebrity’s ‘love lives’ etc.  Another feature that will be frequent throughout my magazine will be the latest fashion trends. This will include information on the styles that are in that season, and outfit ideas for certain occasions such as weddings, party’s etc. The magazine will also include information on the latest deals in the main stream shops to do with clothing.
My magazine will be mainly distributed print based, as i believe the whole purpose of a magazine is to physically have it to read. However questionnaires will be available online in order to allow the audience to vote which artist they would like to see feature in the latest print. Preview articles will also sometimes be available online to allow the audiences to see what the latest magazine will contain.
The cost of my magazine will be £3.50; the reasoning for this is that the magazine will need to make enough profit in order to be able to pay for the printing of the magazine and through analysing the results from my surveys no one would be willing to pay more than £4 for a magazine.
The unique selling point of my magazine is that the audience will have a lot of say in what features, allowing it to always appeal to them. The magazine also offers equal amount of information on fashion and music and will include exclusive interviews with new artists and fashion icons.

I think that the images i have chosen are appropriate for my chosen genre because they match a lot of the conventions within. First of all a lot of the images contain pink which is a colour that is stereotypically associated with pop magazine. Also by my target audience being girls the colours will also appeal to them.

By also having images of gigs will allow me to include features about gigs and concerts which will allow my magazine to appeal to the older half of my target audience.

Most of the pictures i will used are not staged, this adds a more natural feel to the magazine implying to the audience that everything in it is true and nothing within is false.

The content of this specific magazine contains an image that takes up the majority of the page itself. This implies that the main article in the magazine will feature the people within the image. By the image being in black and white connotes age, as all images many years ago were only in colour. This connotes to the audience that the people in the image have been round for a long time, suggesting that they may be making a comeback of some sort. It can also suggest that because they have been around for a while they have more experience in the music industry and there quality of music will be better than any new comers which will attract more audiences. By using the older image will attract a secondary audience because the primary audience will be the people who usually read the magazine but then the secondary audience will be those who are interested In the artists in the image.
By having the people within the image looking like they are dancing and smiling immediately sets a happy feel to the audience as they can see others are enjoying themselves and so are they. This allows the reader to create a positive feel when thinking of the magazine encouraging them to read on or even read the magazine again. It also allows the reader to enjoy reading the magazine because they do not feel as though everything within will be serious. By the people in the image looking away from the camera and demonstrating that they are actually engaging in what they are doing suggests to the reader that the image is naturally posed and has not been set up, this connotes that the artist actually enjoy what they are doing and are not just doing it for the money and fame.
By having the same colour scheme of pink and black running throughout the contains page adds sophistication and maturity to the magazine as it looks as though everything has been thought about and not just randomly chosen for the sake of it. Also by having a repetition of colours throughout allows audiences to recognise the magazine houses style/ brand identity. The use of black connotes sophistication and dominance in the magazine which will appeal to an older audience and suggests that the magazine is more superior to the others. On the other hand the use of pink suggest a more girly, young feel to the magazine appealing to a younger audience and connoting that not all the things within are taking seriously and that the magazine can adapt to suit you.
By using the bold font when introducing the themes written about on certain pages allows the audience to automatically see what will be featured on each page. It also gets across the main story so that the reader does not have to read loads before they find out what is on what page. It also allows the reader to navigate to pages quickly as they can cleary see what stories go with what pages. By putting the font in black allows helps the writing to stand out as it contrasts with the white background, furthermore this again, helps the audiences to identify certain stories without struggle.

By having the image on the double page spread as a ‘on profile shot’ immediately makes the picture stand out because the artist is looking directly at the reader catching there eye immediately. This connotes that the artist within the image is confident and their music ‘stands out’ from everyone else’s.  Also by placing the ‘icon’ ring right next to her head suggests that she is a role model to many and that people look up to her and her achievements. However by having the artist herself demonstrate almost a shocked expression suggests that she is surprised that so many look up to her and that she is humble for the support that she has.

The double page consists of and interview between Nicki Minaj and an interviewee. To make it easier for the reader to know when different questions have been asked the editor has put the questions in a bold font. This helps the reader to identify when one question has been asked and then recognise cleary when another has been asked. Also by having the artists name in a big, bold font instantly informs the reader who the article is about. By having her name as the biggest font as well detonates to the reader that she is the most important thing on this page, and that everything is going to be about her.

By having the artist dressed in black and white connotes multiple things. First of all the colour white stereotypically connotes purity and innocence and then on the other had the colour black stereotypically connotes evil and badness, and I mainly used on villains in films/books etc. By using the contrast of colours on the artist suggests to us as an audience that she has two different sides to her and because of this she can appeal to a wider range of audiences because her music can cater for many.

Two different types of pinks are used throughout the double page spread, a light one used on the background and then a darker one used on the artists name and on the dropped cap. By having her name in a darker font than the background makes it stand out, again signifying her importance but also by using a darker colour connotes to the audience that she has a bad/feisty side to her and that she doesn’t like being part of the background, she prefers to make a statement and stand out. Overall the use of the colour pink stereotypically connotes a girly feel to the double page spread and will immediately attract girls to read the article.

By having the article in columns makes the presence of the double page spread look neater. This adds to the house style of the magazine and makes it look more professional as everything is well thought about and nothing seems cluttered. This creates a more mature atmosphere to the overall feel of the magazine and allows the magazine to have more of a chance of selling because people respect the magazine because the editor has made it look mature and friendly and easy to use.
